I have served as a room mother to my daughter’s class since she was in preschool. One thing I can tell you from this experience is that kids love school parties. The excitement of spending free time with their friends and the fact that they can be at school and not have to work seems to make them forget the science and math tests that usually fill their afternoons. Since these events are so important to the children, I always try to do something special to make them enjoy the party even more. Sometimes I bring balloons. At other times I try to find special gifts. I love to see their eyes light up as I walk in the room with a big bouquet of balloons or a box of gift bags. However, I do not love the cost of these gifts. Luckily I have found an inexpensive alternative to purchasing retail.

A while ago while, planning an anniversary party, I found an amazing website that sells discount party supplies. I found that I could purchase nearly any party décor I wanted at less then 75% of what the same item would cost retail. The next time a school party approached I went straight to the site. I found several wonderful party favors, bought balloons and still spent less than I would have for one of these items at a retail store. But best of all, I found a section of the website that has helped me to save even more.

While I was browsing the site I found a section labeled “specials.” I selected the section to find out exactly what was so special. It turned out this section was a listing of clearance items that had been discounted even more! There were balloons, table cloths, party favors, character décor and most everything else that could be needed to leave the little ones in awe. Unfortunately, most of these items could not all be bought in sets. I ignored the possibilities of this page at first but soon realized I was missing a great opportunity.

While I may not be able to buy complete sets off of the specials page all the time, I can buy pieces at a lower cost and match them to other pieces later. I began snatching up things I knew I could use in the future. I found Valentine’s Day items, various colors of balloons and many other useful party supplies. My estimation is that with the various pieces collected, nothing will need to be purchased for next year’s school parties. Moreover, I purchased all of these wonderful items for less than I would have spent on one party had I bought them retail.
